Across the UK, British Youth for Christ is seeing a new openness amongst young people. Their research (Z-A Growing Spirituality) shows that belief in God is up 16% in the last 5 years. Spiritual experiences are also up as well as the number of young people reading the bible, praying daily and identifying as followers of Jesus.
Locally, we are seeing this too. Irrespective of tradition or denomination, young people are dropping into churches, seeking meaning and purpose and asking questions. More than ever, now is the time to capitalise on this new interest and invest into youth ministry.
But many churches struggle with capacity, expertise and sometimes even desire amongst their congregations.
Waltham Forest Youth for Christ works closely with local churches to help them engage with young people so they can encounter faith, hope, and community.
We help churches establish Battle Plan prayer groups and other youth-focused prayer initiatives, while also facilitating prayer within their existing ministries.
By advising and consulting with church leadership teams, we empower them to develop strong, sustainable youth strategies that truly serve their communities. Alongside this, we support churches in training volunteers ensuring young people are supported, encouraged, and given opportunities to thrive.
We are working to see joint events and initiatives that will benefit the churches and help strengthen young people’s faith.
Our longer term vision is to see a funded schools worker in the area to serve schools and provide a faith link.
